WHERE DOES
THE DARKNESS GO WHEN YOU TURN ON THE LIGHT????
As
frightening and even powerful as darkness may seem at times, it disappears at
the flick of a light switch.
When Jesus
came to live on this earth, He entered a world shrouded in the darkness of
sin. We know what it was like, because
our world lies in that darkness, too.
Jesus came
into our world to scatter the darkness.
He didn’t turn on the light; He is the Light. God’s light came into the world, but people
loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions are evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to
go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can
see that they are doing what God wants.
“Blessed are
those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence,
O Lord.” (Psalm 89:15)
“Your word is
a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
(Psalm 119:105)
“When Jesus
spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life.”
(John 8:12)

ST. PAUL’S SUNDAY SCHOOL will be hosting a bake sale on
Sunday, May 10th (Mother’s Day). The funds will be used to purchase new children and teen bibles
for the Sunday School. This would be a
great way to get dessert for Mothers on their very special day. We will be in the gym and lower level of the
Church between services.
TRINITY, HERSCHER – will observe its 100th
anniversary with 100 days of celebration.
A German Service will be held on May 17. For details on all events, call 815-426-2262 or e-mail trinityher1@comcast.net. The church is located at 255 East 3rd
Street.
St. Paul’s
Spring Blood Drive – If you are like most people, you have a gift that you can keep on
giving. Since you can spare it, why not
share it – regularly. And, encourage
your family and friends. After all, you
never know when you or someone you love could use it. If you are healthy, your body, which has between 10 to 12 pints
of blood, can easily spare a pint, the amount that’s taken at a donation. Your body begins replacing blood
immediately. Most people can donate
every eight weeks, but if all eligible donors gave just twice a year, there
would be no shortage.
GIVE
THE GIFT OF LIFE, GIVE BLOOD
In the gym,
Saturday May 16th from 8:00 a.m. ‘til Noon.

LWML/LADIES
AID NEWS
We’ve all seen the Tee shirts
that say, “So many books, so little time.”
We smile and we know it to be true.
Most of us would do a lot more recreational reading if we could.
So it is with LWML—“So many
opportunities, so few volunteers.” Yes,
we’d like to be “Lutheran Women Making
a difference in Lives.”
But one thing or another stands in the way. We’re shy….we don’t want to break in….we don’t want to be over
involved….we don’t know how to begin….we have so little time. The list can go on.
It’s so easy….begin with
prayer. Ask God for mission eyes and a
servant heart. Keep a mite box in a
prominent place. Fill it with extra
change and sincere prayers. God will
use both for His divine purpose. Bring
it with you and empty it whenever—the big wooden mite box in the narthex is
checked often. Many district and
national projects still need funds.
Take advantage of the
opportunities to gather with other women here at St. Paul’s or in our
area. The next event is a multicultural
concert of musicians and praise dancers on Sunday, May 17, 3 p.m. at Zion
Lutheran Church, 99th and Winston.
See the bulletin board for details.
We’ll have an event here at St.
Paul’s. Watch for the announcement in
the bulletin. Mark it on your calendar
and plan to attend.
Finally—THE BIG EVENT! What could be a mountaintop experience! It’s the 33rd Biennial
Convention on June 25 to June 28 in Portland, Oregon. “Look to the Hills, God Reigns” proclaims the theme. It’s more important than ever to remind ourselves
of this truth in these uncertain times.
All the details are in the Winter Quarterly and a few are still on the
rack at the west entrance of the church.
Pick one up, then prayerfully ask God to show you how you can
participate. See you in Portland!
We are all Lutheran
Women and we can, with God’s help, Make a
difference in Lives.
May God
richly bless you,
Margo

Our
Unchanging God
At least that’s the message we’re being told
The world keeps changing so very fast
And you just can’t keep living in the past
That’s true, in a way, and we must change, too
If we find it’s the better thing to do
There are more ways now to serve the Lord
To tell about His saving Word
But the Word of God is still the same
It is pure and true the way it came
The same old story we love to hear
The same old story year after year
It’s Christmas and Easter we hear and then
It’s Christmas and Easter again and again
The same old story about God’s love
How Jesus came from Heaven above
To be a part of the human race
And give to us His saving grace
To die and rise again from the grave
Undeserving sinners to save
So, let me be unchanging, too
In loving the Lord, His work to do
Throughout my life I’ll take His hand
Till He calls me at last to the promised land

ST. PAUL’S SPECIAL VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY
April 13, 2009
The Special Voters Meeting was
opened with a prayer, with 62 members present.
The sole purpose of the meeting was
to select a call candidate for a principal/teacher. The call would involve
limited tenure (three-year cycle) beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.
Members of the Board of Christian Education stated that the position would
likely consist of part-time administration as principal and a part-time
teaching assignment.
The three call candidates were
Jacob Rogers, Leslie J. Kranz, and Danny L. Green. Eventually receiving the
required two-thirds majority was Danny L. Green. The Voters then made the
election of Mr. Green unanimous by a rising vote.
The meeting was adjourned with
praying of the Lord’s Prayer.
Approved,
David Brauer
Chairman of Congregation
Respectfully submitted,
Dale Jacobs
Secretary of Congregation
